Upcoming National Forgiveness Day

Almost everyone has been hurt by another person’s actions or words. We are constantly surrounded by people and things that can offend or disappoint us. This leads us to two options: to store up the bitterness and resentment inside of us, or to extend grace to another person and forgive them.

Forgiveness is making the deliberate decision to let go of anger, resentment, or hatred towards another person. It does not mean you have to like them or like what they have done, it just means you release them from the hurt they’ve caused you.  Forgiveness is not something they deserve, but instead an act of obedience to the Word of God. We must forgive, so God can forgive us.   Matthew 6:14 tells us, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”

Holding on to grudges and bitterness has a very negative effect on your life. If you choose not to forgive, then you end up taking your “baggage” (bitterness and forgiveness) to other relationships with people in your life. Unforgiveness can even cause health issue. Pray and ask the Lord who you need to forgive today!
