The vertical bar in the cross is carved (three D engraving) from a solid square block of stainless steel that form all the letter shapes to spell the name of JESUS. The Jesus bar is then painted black with black powder. Using high tech electrical anodizing process that puts voltage through the steel to bond it to the steel. It is like a strong black paint coating over top the stainless steel. But unlike paint, this coating is truly apart of the steel. Then the Jesus text is welded to the silver vertical pillar to complete the cross for you. As a reminder, the black coating will not rub off, its on forever... but, it can only be scratched off with a brick or sharp knife. Please respect all jewelry, but anodized pieces need to be worn in non hazardous conditions to keep its beautiful finish. It like a new car... throw a few bricks on your car and see the result. Unlike a car that can be repainted, the cross cannot be re-anodized.
